Pop Art by Adrian Sumner

17 February 2017 at Stadtteilschule Bahrenfeld

We sponsored a lecture for some of the art students and others with good English knowledge by offering them a lecture in English by our visiting lecturer, Adrian Sumner.
About 50 turned up for this lecture, together with a couple of teachers. See details below:

Hamburg’s Young Arts Project 2015

NADFAS societies provide young people with opportunities to take part in creative activities involving art and to teach them about arts heritage by organising projects or initiatives with schools and groups of young people.

BRIDFAS first talked about doing one such project late in 2014 with the International School of Hamburg, which is located locally to where our meetings are normally held and one of our Committee is a teacher there.
Out of the initial ideas and discussions with the school grew the idea of a literacy project - combining art with words on a large wall mural in the school. A very creative British teacher working in the school was approached and she was so enthusiastic about the idea that BRIDFAS agreed to sponsor part of the costs of the project with the school.

This project will be finished shortly and the school has arranged an event on 19 June where everybody can go along and see the results. The children have been very excited about the project and will be there to show us around. There will be some poetry reading and singing from the school choir and the teacher will show a slideshow of the work during the project.

We hope to do more such projects in the future and would encourage you to put forward suggestions if you know of any schools which have a need for an educational project involving the children in the areas of the arts, heritage and conservation.
